Tadashi Shoji Stays True Blue

Though Spring is generally when designers get their color on, at least one upcoming collection looks set to remain faithful to monochrome shades spliced with ever-so-subtle flashes of ultramarine and kryptonite blue: that of Los Angeles-based Tadashi Shoji, whose collection is inspired by Jean Nouvel’s architectural monument for the new Louvre museum in Abu Dhabi. “I was struck by the interplay of beauty and light and the streaming geometric shapes,” reveals the Japanese expat, whose ode to longtime influences Madame Grès and Vionnet is exemplified by draping effects with tulle, pleated silk organza, and laser-cut detailing. “It’s all very pure, but expect a lot of twists,” says stylist Tina Chai, who was hand-picked by Shoji to collaborate on the September 12 presentation in Bryant Park. “We met with seven different people for the job,” says Shoji, “but once we saw Tina, we just clicked.”

Then we have two different Tadashi Shoji styles included in special pick pages. Finally we are presented with an article featuring Tadashi and his collections.

The Bloomingdales Fall catalog has this elegant image of a Tadashi black/nude off-the-shoulder gown with nylon lace bodice and silk chiffon skirt.

The September issue of Vegas magazine features two surprises for Tadashi fans. First we have the actress Carla Gugino wearing an aubergine silk charmeuse gathered one shoulder blouson cocktail dress from the Fall/Winter 2008 Tadashi Shoji line. The we have the premiere of another new ad which features the calligraphy embroidered black and gold double silk satin bateau neck gown also from the Fall/Winter 2008 Tadashi Shoji line.

The September 1st issue of OK Weekly magazine includes the one and only Blake Lively in an aubergine silk charmeuse gathered one shoulder blouson cocktail dress from the Fall/Winter 2008 Tadashi Shoji line in a line out of stars in purple.

The September issue of the German InStlye magazine highlights this stylish scarlet silk crepe knotted waist halter cocktail dress from the Fall/Winter 2008 Tadashi Shoji line.
